2010 – Danielle Amirault
The Port Credit Alumni Association is pleased to announce that the recipient of our $750 Alumni Scholarship for 2010 is Danielle Amirault.
Danielle had a very distinguished time at Port Credit. In addition to having been on the honour roll every year and graduating with marks in the 90’s, Danielle participated in a wide variety of activities, earning both the Blue and the Gold awards for extra curricular participation.
Danielle was vice president of the Student Activity Council, played on the Varsity soccer and hockey teams, downhill and cross country ski teams and helped officiate with the boy’s basketball and football teams.
Danielle raised over $5000.00 for cancer research at the Princess Margaret Hospital by being sponsored to participate in a 200 Kilometer bike ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls. In November 2009, Danielle travelled to Chile to participate in the renovation of a home to give a boy with Spina Bifida, a room of his own.
Danielle is a well rounded student who will be attending Queen’s University in the Commerce program. We are proud to present her with our Alumni Award for Excellence for 2010.
2010 – Jia Hui (Allen) Gou
The Port Credit Alumni Association is pleased to announce that the recipient of our $750 Alumni Scholarship for 2010 is Jia Hui (Allen) Gou.
As a new immigrant to Canada in June 2005, Allen arrived in Canada with no friends and no English language skills. Thanks to the English as Second language program at both his grade 8 school and subsequently in the ESL program at Port Credit, Allen was able to meet other students who spoke the same language and was thus able to have some friends while they were developing their skills in English.
Allen worked extremely hard to develop his English skills and joined many clubs and teams so he could interact with other students and learn more language skills.
Allen was a member of the math club, chess club, robotics club, chemistry club, rocketry team and SciTech student council. Allen participates in community activities and was on the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee, where he has been contributing ideas and donating his time in Community events such as Christmas tree lighting, Winter Olympics torch relay, Earth Hour, and Canada Day Celebrations.
With all his hard work, Allen has made the Honour Roll every year and has been accepted into the very difficult Electrical and Computer Engineering program at the University of Toronto.
As a note of interest, Allen impressed the Alumni Scholarship committee by attaching photos of himself participating in all the activities in which he was involved. Congratulations on receiving our Alumni Award for your achievements.
