2011 – Andrew Andrade
The Port Credit Alumni Association is pleased to announce that the recipient of our $750 Alumni Scholarship for 2011 is Andrew Andrade.
Andrew was one of the top students in the Science and Technology program. In addition to superior marks, Andrew participated in diverse extra curricular activities such as badminton, ultimate Frisbee, lacrosse, student council, chess and chemistry clubs.
Andrew led the school’s Skills Ontario robotics team to the best in Peel 2 years in a row. As such, they qualified to compete in the province and came 4th and 6th place out of over 50 teams.
Andrew, with a team of 4 students, came 3rd place overall at McMaster Engineering Olympics and Andrew also placed highly in the University of Waterloo computing competition.
Andrew has consistently been a positive role model to other students and we are sure he will continue to do so in his Engineering program at the university of Waterloo.
The alumni committee is pleased to give our excellence award of $750.00 to such a deserving recipient.
2011 – Bailey Lzzard
The Port Credit Alumni Association is pleased to announce that the recipient of our $750 Alumni Scholarship for 2011 is Bailey Izzard.
Bailey came to Port Credit and took the Science and Technology program with the goal of taking engineering at University.
That choice changed when Bailey took the Transportation Technology program and that totally changed her career path.
Her hands-on training in the automotive field has led to a part time job at an auto dealership, where she will get her apprenticeship training following her automotive Service Technician program at Conestoga College.
On an extra-curricular basis, Bailey participated in outdoor leadership activities and leadership camp as well as playing volleyball and rugby.
The Port Credit Alumni Association is pleased to announce that our award of $750.00 for a student going to College this year, goes to Bailey Izzard.
2011 – Andrew Andrade
Terry Garbutt Memorial Award
The Port Credit Alumni Association is pleased to announce the first recipient of the $500.00 Terry Garbutt Memorial Award is Andrew Andrade.
This new award is to be given to a student who has shown creativity and vision by implementing an idea to help the school or community.
Andrew led the project of making Port Credit school the first school in Canada to be part of the IBM’s worldwide scientific computing grid.
He came up with an Information Technology infrastructure plan and an analysis of the costs to the School Computer Network.
Andrew built the test lab and since then the school has been running the program in 2 labs to ensure its stability and usefulness to the school.
Andrew’s initiative to get this project started as well as his outstanding work in academics and extra curricular activities made Andrew our choice for this award. Congratulations.
2011 – Thai-Son Tang
Sci – Tech Award
The Port Credit Alumni Association is pleased to announce that this year’s Sci./Tech award of $500.00 goes to Thai-Son Tang.
Thai-Son excelled in the Science and Technology program. In addition to his outstanding academic results, Thai-Son participated in all the mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer contests offered by the Universities and placed very highly in all of them.
In addition to his interest in Science, Thai-Son also excelled in music and was a member of both the jazz band and strings orchestra. In sports, he participated in cross country running and badminton.
Having a great desire to help others, Thai-Son spent many volunteer hours at the Trillium Health Care Centre doing a variety of tasks helping both patients and staff.</p>
His love of helping people has guided him towards a career in medicine and with his excellent academic record at Port Credit, he has been accepted into the highly competitive Life Sciences program at McMaster University where in the future he plans to graduate and become a surgeon.
