2009 Scholarship Winner - John Thomas
The Port Credit Alumni Association is pleased to announce that the second recipient of our $750 Alumni Scholarship for 2009 is John Thomas.
John has been in many extra-curricular activities. He has volunteered two days a week to tutor grade nine and ten students who are having difficulties with their math and literacy skills. He also took the initiative to mentor junior students who were considered "at risk".
In sports, John was a member of the cricket team and placed third in the Peel skills Architectural competition. Outside of school, John works part time as a television technician at Trillium Health Centre as well as being a member of staff at The Tower Garden Café at City Hall.
In May, John was chosen by the Mississauga West Rotary Club to attend the national conference. He was one of 220 students chosen from all across Canada. John has always gone out of his way to help others. He continues to demonstrate excellence in his own studies while encouraging others to do the same.
John would like to help others by being a police officer and as such he has enrolled in the Criminal Justice and Police Foundations program at Humber College.
The Port Credit Alumni Committee would like to thank John for his contributions to the school and to wish him success in his future academic and career pursuits. Congratulations.
