2011 Terry Garbutt Scholarship - Andrew Andrade
Not only was Andrew the Alumni committee’s choice for the excellence award, but he also earned the honour of being the first recipient of the Terry Garbutt Memorial award of $500.00
Mr. Garbutt was the founding member of the Port Credit alumni association whose goal it is to raise money for scholarships and other school improvements.
This new award is to be given to a student who has shown creativity and vision by implementing an idea to help the school or community.
Andrew led the project of making Port Credit school the first school in Canada to be part of the IBM’s worldwide scientific computing grid.
He came up with an Information Technology infrastructure plan and an analysis of the costs to the School Computer Network.
Andrew built the test lab and since then the school has been running the program in 2 labs to ensure its stability and usefulness to the school.
Andrew’s initiative to get this project started as well as his outstanding work in academics and extra curricular activities made Andrew our choice for this award. Congratulations.
